Aural Nirvana Awaits You

Greetings and a Happy New Year and 2016 to all. I am having my annual year end sale on most label releases. Use code: 201650% for a 50% disount on check out in the shopping cart. The sale runs from Dec. 31 to Jan. 7th. New releases from Armchair Migraine Journey, Edward Ka-Spel and A Star Too Far are not available for the discount. Also, for you digital music nerds, use code:201675% on my digital section of the site for 75% off all digital downloads.

Also, apologies for the recent delays in getting orders shipped out. The label had to take a sudden brief hiatus. My close friend and mentor of 32 years suddenly passed away. Steve Stokes who owned The Record Gallery in Dallas during the 80's and Seattle in the 90's. He introduced me to all the music and art I love back in 1984 and was just an amazing man with a heart of gold and an amazing musician and visual artist and he left a huge impact on people around the world. I am having a memorial to spread the remainder of his ashes this summer on the Oregon coast and anyone that knew Steve is welcome to attend. Please contact me as I am thinking the last weekend of July for this. Steve Stokes/Record Gallery

Description:

"A Cosmic stomper and highest recommendations!" Edward Ka-Spel Edition of 450 numbered copies packaged in a custom gatefold book bound sleeve. “The emphasis is definitely on the “Journey” as mysterious drone-meets-psychedelia act Armchair Migraine Journey embarks on this new trip. Beginning with a medley of dark ambient drones, buzzes, fades and washes, MAGNETIC BLOOD DROWNING, the initial offering on the two-track Blood Coupling Magnet, lays on thick atmosphere before coalescing into a dark psych-rock jam backed by distortion-drenched drums. In the fashion of the best and most “out there” prog, it effortlessly skirts the line between noise and melody; just when you think things are turning into a morass of self-indulgent feedback, the guitar pulls back just enough to get your head nodding again to the moody Krautrock-inspired rhythm. The second composition, REBIRTH BLOOD OM, shifts even more drastically, traveling further out into the sonic and philosophical void. Industrial rock drums and heavy overdriven guitar chords straight out of some early Pigface demo open things before suddenly giving way to the gentlest ambient, delicately drawn out chiming tones over a quiet heartbeat punctuated by heavy breaths. Soon, the otherworldly growling trance-drone of Tuvan throat-singing—courtesy of Soriah's Enrique Ugalde—brings the ethereal down to earth. A Buddhist mantra, sung by Prajna, forms the backbone to the song's latter half, as the throat-singing takes turns with a fuzzed out, effects-drenched tanpura to follow the melody of the chant, drifting in and out of harmony with Prajna's voice. Cosmic, earthy, ominous, uplifting and even spiritual, Blood Coupling Magnet is sonically fascinating, but more than that, it's emotionally affecting. Plenty of experimental music can manage to do interesting things with your head (especially if you're that breed of music nerd that likes to spend time thinking about experimental music) but Blood Coupling Magnet works its way into your gut, too.” Matthew Johnson

“Featuring a team-up between the Legendary Pink Dots and Randall Frazier of Orbit Service, this project's debut album is a dream come true for fans of experimental space rock. The otherworldly vibe of the Dots melds with Frazier's more electronic side, the album's mood shifting seamlessly from bittersweet wistfulness album opener “Vita Nova” sees distinctive Dots frontman Edward Ka-Spel delivering lyrics of longing over fuzzed out piano chord ambiance to post-industrial tension. “Don't Use My Eyes to See” with its looped static and blasts of shrapnel poetry and scrap metal reverb) and back again, often in the same track - the star-spanning loneliness of "World War 4" eventually gives way to crunchy bass loops and nervous sirens as the space between the stars becomes more oppressive. Fans of both projects' long careers will find lots to appreciate on this saucer-shaped journey through the terminal kaleidoscope, but there are hints of new postmodern elements, as well. Classic synth drones fall prey to intentional glitches and back-masking, and bits of tinny drum 'n' bass-inspired rhythm flicker underneath softly shimmering analog drones. Ka-Spel's and Frazier's vocals are as distinctive as ever, but it's the instrumentation and sound design that stars. Ka-Spel is a wonderful storyteller, but here he steps back just far enough to let you envision your own journey to this soundtrack of analog pulses and echoing loops. A star too far, perhaps, but you'll never forget the things you'll see on the trip out, even if you never find your way back home...” Matthew Johnson

“It all happened during a magical week in the month of April 2014. After a thoroughly enjoyable tour the previous Fall when Randall Frazier aka Orbit Service opened for The Legendary Pink Dots in all corners of North America. It felt like such a perfect match that The Dots wanted to repeat the experience in Europe. However, it's never smart to dive into a van for a tour immediately after stepping off a Transatlantic flight. Consequently Randall stayed with Edward Ka-Spel and family for 3 nights before hitting the road to Newcastle in the UK. That's when the recordings happened. The red light was locked on a permanent red and the Ka-Spel/Frazier team basically explored a new universe together. Hours of material emerged which were later edited, decorated with vocals by both singers and then sent to Pink Dots' Erik Drost and The Silverman for further contributions.”

Randall Frazier: Keyboards, vocals, engineering
Edward Ka-Spel: Keyboards, vocals, editing, engineering

But you can’t see a rainbow at night-time, unless it’s neon. And it is neon, and the temperature rises with a click of the fingers because Winter makes you tired. Even a Winter like this, where you’re walking across a three-dimensional postcard that’s on its way to an island in Paradise. Because Paradise is waiting. Paradise is real and it’s waiting for you to bring it to life with a click of the fingers. It’s all there. It’s all too beautiful. IN the ether…."
